here's the link: www.marthastewart.com/goodthing/no-knit-scarf
i read the instructions & when i got to the part that read: "tie square knots"
i immediately was taken back 30 years. M.A.C.R.A.M.E.
i ran out & bot some bulky yarn & followed her instructions. 1st scarf looked okay but a little wimpy. so i beefed it up by adding 2 extra rows & what do you think of the results?

coincidentally, angie smith at bring the rain(audreycaroline.blogspot.com) was talking about scarves yesterday & bigmama at bigmamablog.com did her fashion friday piece today on how to tie a scarf(per angie's request).
another coincidence - it's 10 below outside, so a warm scarf would certainly come in handy today! ya just gotta know how to wear it!
below, henry shows us a couple of different ways:

needless to say, he was a less than willing model.
for me - it took as long to cut the yarn into 200" pieces as it did to tie it.
and - i had to stop frequently during the tieing (tying?) part so my neck wouldn't kill me from the repetitive motion. but actual work time: 2 hrs. tops. so far, i've made 3 nice ones & the 1 wimpy one.
i pinned it on my office bulletin board & kept pinning it up as it got longer. i was trying to show how to do the square knot in a couple of the photos below.

on a totally different subject - am i the only one who has trouble uploading photos onto their blog? it takes me forever! then, i have to move them around & all kinds of craziness. there has got to be an easier way to do this.
anyway, back to macrame - it is a very enjoyable scarf to make & i think it makes a nice little gift. oh, the cost? it takes 1 skein to make 1 scarf & using a coupon at joanne, i've paid around $4 or less for each skein. make sure you buy a super bulky weight yarn like lion brand wool-ease thick&quick. that's what i used.
and as martha would say- "a macrame scarf: it's a good thing"

I Love It!! My friend had on this kind of mini shawl(?) thing, and it looked just like this. Could you do that? Grey would look great over a black T-neck.
jen - absolutely! you could even do a stick your head thru the middle cape thingy like tanya stutzmann used to wear. the possibilities are endless. ooh - grey sounds good. thanks for the comments. & i LOVE the flannel/fleece quilt you made ethan.
