this week's thrifty treasures

we had a garage sale at church on saturday.

my sister was helping set up friday night & called me to say they had some bolts of fabric. i was already in my jammies so i said i'd be there at 8 am when it opened the next day. people were already lined up at 7:30 & they got my fabric!

but i did get a few fun things. can't tell you how much i spent because i can't remember. but i didn't pay more than 2.00 for anything.

i have some bronze paint & i think i'll see if i can freshen this up a little bit.

then on the way home, we stopped by a garage sale in our neighborhood. these 2 sisters have one about once a month. i'd been eyeing this hutch plate holder thingy all summer (i think it was priced for 40 to begin with) & finally got it for $15. i did remember that price! a lot more than i usually spend but i just love it. have no idea what i'll do with it, though. my house is very open with lots of windows & doorways & very little wide amounts of wall space.

we went back to church at 2 pm to help with the clean up. at 2:30, everything was free for the taking (what a deal!) we handed out boxes as people came in & said "take what you want, it's all free" & were they ever choosy! you would have thought we'd said "all prices are triple!" IT WAS FREE, PEOPLE. actually, a lot of people were very excited & we got rid of quite a bit. & it really made the clean up a lot quicker. the Kidney Foundation was coming today to pick up the leftovers.

i picked up a few more things (FOR FREE).

i got a dresser that i thought i'd just use for extra storage in the basement, but on the way home, i remembered that my niece was looking for one, so i called her & she picked it up yesterday. she's talking about it today on her blog: robbeth.blogspot.com. it's great to find something for yourself, but when you can find something for someone else, it's even greater.

one last thing - i found this back in the early spring at home goods. chipped & on clearance.
brought it home & kept playing with it. it got worse before it got better. but now i'm happy & i do believe it looks pretty good.

yes, i am aware that hummingbirds aren't white & it would be highly unlikely that they would lay eggs as large as this. and yes, i am aware that that is not an egg, but a bar of brown soap. henry told me that.

make sure you check out all of the posts linking to rhoda's
lots & lots of thrifty treasures!

You found some great things (sorry about the fabric--that can be so frustrating). I love your hummingbird redo. What a creative soap dish!
