thanksgiving at lizards thicket

i’m actually attempting to post a post!

 

where did november go?  i remember it being nov. 1st & then – bam! here it is, nov. 29th.

 

just got back from a week in south carolina.  our little house was waiting for us & the little lizards that live there, too.  didn’t see any mice but evidence of them having been there recently was, unfortunately, spotted.  spent the week reading, working on ICU (women’s ministries) planning & just chillin’. 

 

weather was rainy & cool until wednesday.

 

and then -

the sun came out & it was beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

almost didn’t need a coat for the pigroast  at the farm on weds. night 

and -

definitely didn’t need a coat (only a jean jacket) for thanksgiving on thursday.  it was SUNNY & around 70 degrees.

it was a great time.  now it’s back to work.  eva’s here tomorrow & henry on tuesday & eva on weds., then henry & eston on thursday.  oh, and i have vertigo at the moment.  gotta get that under control, too!

i doubt if henry will be anything like this boy anytime soon. perhaps, but i doubt it.
today he hid a new loaf of bread in my reading room behind a table. i don't know why, he just did.

i was just sitting in the tv room and talking on the phone to my niece, beth, when i looked over at the tv and thought “what on earth is all over it?”

if you can’t make out what it is, let me tell you.  they are free stickers that came in the mail that say:  this disney dvd belongs to the parker family.  isn’t that swell?  they were even on the drawers but i managed to get them off.

now, why on earth would shelly put those on there?

but, wait!  you don’t think henry could have done that, do you?  do you?  do you?

 

 

what time is it?

i'm joining the before and after party that Thrifty Decor Chick is having today

This is the story of my before & after of a large focal wall in my living room
& of my clock.

i love clocks.

but i absolutely can't stand to hear a ticking clock. if you ever want to torture me into telling you something, put me in a room with a ticking clock. wanta send me over the edge? put me in a room filled with them. i have an assortment of clocks in my house that show the correct time only twice a day. why? no batteries. i had to take out the batteries (because of the ticking).

& i have a really big focal wall in my living room. the ceilings are pretty high in there. let me go ask my hubby just how high. be right back ..................................he says over 14 feet. what do you put on a wall that high? this is how it's looked since pretty soon after we moved in 2 years ago (please ignore the builder beige walls, i know they need a major paint job):




i like everything there. i really love the corbels with the glass top. so it went up first & then i added the crosses & the cool real old picture, and the framed scripture from my community bible study servants team commissioning. but it's such a big wall & just didn't make a "statement".

& then -
i found the.most.beautiful.clock. it was at the urban farmhouse in thornville, ohio. beautiful shop; beautiful clock. i casually asked how much it cost. and then when i got home, i totally forgot how much lisa, the owner, had said. i told corrie that i thought it was 150 & she thought it was 1500. oh, well. it was a beautiful clock.

& then -
we went to the country living fair. lisa & the urban farmhouse was (& were) there. i asked her, again, about the clock. she said it was 150. oh my goodness! she said 150, but they were out of them. another shipment was due in. i started dreaming about the clock; where it would go, worrying about the ticking, would it look good?, worrying about the ticking.

& then -
she got in more clocks & i kept thinking about it. finally, i asked shelly if we could get it as our anniversary gift to each other (which is tomorrow) & he said the usual thing: if that's what you want & it's in our budget, then, of course. or something along that line, all spoken with a southern accent. i do love a man with a southern accent.

& then -

a week ago we drove to thornville. lisa wasn't there but her mom was.
and- we.bot.the.clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on the way home, i said "i hope the ticking doesn't drive me totally mad!" and, when we got home, i realized that there were batteries already in the clock.

& guess what? it's a clock miracle! IT DOESN'T TICK! isn't that just like God? to show off & delight you like that & to show me that i need to stop worrying and obsessing about things. He took care of it, & probably had a good laugh, too.

& then -

we hung the clock! which is now called "my clock".

& now - wherever i am in the house, i can see my clock

from the chair where i read & do my quiet time & bible study


& from our bedroom, too (but i forgot to take a picture from there.
so, this'll do. just step back several feet & you're in our bedroom)

i love my clock, my beautiful non-ticking clock. what an awesome anniversary gift!

or so i thought, until the other day, when i got my real anniversary gift. a cricut, a cricut, yes i said, a cricut. i got a cricut. can you tell i'm excited about it?

but, back to my clock. a little more info about it. it's called a mora clock. it's a reproduction of the original swedish mora clocks of the 18th and 19th centuries. if you want to know more, go to the urban farmhouse blog urbanfarmhouse.blogspot.com/ & ask lisa.

just so you know - it cost a lot less than the cricut! but i love it just the same.

& - it doesn't tick!
